DEUTSCHE VERSION

" My grandpa ... that's me "

a funny German text as sung by the pop-group called
TRUCKSTOP
(CD: TRUCKSTOP Rodeo).
Translated into English it reads as follows:
My grandpa, that’s me – my grandpa, that’s me
although understood by nobody, it may happen to anybody,
my grandpa that’s me.

It was many years ago and started as a normal affair,
I met a rich widow and became her second man.
That widow’s daughter was just 18 years old,
she fell in love with my father … they married and she joined the family fold.

Thus my father became my son-in-law, but that’s just how the story began.
My stepdaughter was my stepmother since my father was her married man.
So far and quite good. We understood the connection, the first year passed.
Then my wife became pregnant and soon I was a pa.

My grandpa, that’s me – my grandpa that’s me
although understood by nobody, it may happen to anybody,
my grandpa that’s me.

Now my son was the brother of the daughter of my wife,
i.e. the brother-in-law of my father, that was to me almost like normal life.
However, as a brother-in-law of my father, the thought gave me quite a fright …
my son will not only be my son but also my uncle, and this is right.

The daughter of my wife got twin brothers.
That were my brothers since they were the sons of my father.
And since they were my brothers, as everybody can agree,
their grandma - my wife - has to be MY grandma, you see ?

If my wife happens to be my grandma, then I am her grandchild,
and this almost brings us to the end of our little chronicle.
As the husband of my grandma, and I see no taboo,
I am not only my grandpa ……. but my grandson, too !

My grandpa, that’s me – my grandpa that’s me
although understood by nobody, it may happen to anybody,
my grandpa that’s me.
